Visitors to Pecs from Budapest can travel by coach, by train or by car.
The coach leaves from Nepliget ('Nepliget' station on Metro line 3). The journey takes about 4 hours. Budapest has direct rail link to Pecs from the Eastern Railway Station (Keleti Palyaudvar) and from the Western Railway Station (Nyugati Palyaudvar). Both railway stations can be accessed by the metro ('Keleti pu.' on Metro line 2, 'Nyugati pu.' on Metro line 3). Taking the InterCity train is the fastest and the most comfortable way to travel between Pecs and Budapest.
Travellers by car can reach the town on Highway No. 6 in about 3 hours. The town is sectioned into 3 parking zones, and different parking fees are charged according to the zone. Parking tickets must be purchased from the nearest ticket machine in advance, and tickets should be displayed behind the windscreen so that they can be seen clearly.
Hungary is in the temperate zone and has a continental climate. The weather is mild in spring and in autumn, summer is hot (temperatures can reach 35ºC) and winter is cold (temperatures can fall as low as -15ºC). It rains mainly in spring and in autumn.
Pecs is situated at the foot of the Mecsek Mountains, which affects the climate of the town, but it is not significantly different from the Hungarian average.
The local bus network allows you to reach the different parts of the town and to visit the most important sites of Pecs easily. Tickets can be purchased at the main bus stations (Budai allomas, Fopalyaudvar), tobacconists, newsagents or from the bus drivers.
